După căderea Uniunii Sovieticii, Belarus devine o ţară independentă, iar la Minsk se pun bazele unei şcoli de elită. În 1995, când Lukaşenko preia puterea, libertatea şi democraţia iau sfârşit. Studenţii au continuat să ţină cursurile în mod ilegal, în pofida fricii de represiune. Filmul ne arată cum tinerii au puterea de a influenţa condiţiile lor de viaţă şi de a protesta împotriva regimului.

After the Soviet Union collapsed, Belarus became an independent country and an elite school was established in Minsk. When Lukashenko came to power in 1995, freedom and democracy ended. The students illegally continued to have lessons, despite the fear of repression. The film shows how young people have the power to influence their living conditions and to protest against the regime.

Scenarii şi dependenţe în contextul realităţilor economice ale unei lumi industrializate şi globalizate.

A visual essay about human labour in the evolution of industry and globalisation. Work processes develop, human labour becomes replaceable. From archaism to the symphony of machines, towards a service economy. Production relies increasingly on man not as labourer but as consumer. Scenarios and dependencies within the context of economic realities in an industrialised and globalised world.

Filmul abordeaza tematica muncii fizice in conditii extrem de grele. Oare aceasta dispare sau doar devine invizibila? Unde se mai gaseste ea în secolul 21? „Workingman’s Death” urmareste muncitorii care lucreaza ilegal în minele din Ucraina, pe cei care muncesc în minele de sulf din Indonezia. Astfel ne conduce într-un abator din Nigeria si în Pakistan, în mijlocul unor oameni care demonteaza un petrolier si spera împreuna cu muncitorii din industria otelului din China la un viitor glorios.

Filmul prezinta ultimele luni petrecute în lagarele de concentrare, relatând povestea supravietuitorilor din primavara anului 1945. La întoarcere, acestia vorbeau cu dificultate, si mult mai frapant, ceilalti refuzau sa-i asculte. Au fost doar cateva mii de supravietuitori, iar vocile lor s-au pierdut în lunga relatare a suferintelor de dupa razboi.

The film tells the story of the death camp survivors in 1945, their difficulty in speaking when they returned, and even more striking, the refusal of others to listen. There were only a few thousand survivors, and their voices were lost in the long recital of woes after the war.

In aprilie 2005, întreaga lume a auzit stirea conform careia, în nordul Afganistanului, o femeie de 29 de ani a fost executata public prin lapidare, pe motiv de adulter. Povestea documentarului începe cu cinci ani înaintea acestui eveniment, prezentând istoria din perspectiva martorilor si reconstituind tragicele circumstante. Filmul ne arata cât de greu se întelege din exterior ierarhia valorilor musulmane. O lume în care nimic nu valoreaza mai putin decât viata unui om.

In April 2005 the world heard the news that in northern Afghanistan a 29-year-old woman has been publicly stoned for adultery. The story of the documentary begins five years before this event, presenting the history in the eyes of witnesses, reconstructing the tragic occurrence. The film shows how difficult it is for outsiders to understand the Muslim hierarchy of values. A world, in which nothing is worth less than a human’s life.

Principalii protagonisti ai filmului traiesc în una dintre cele mai dure mahalale din Africa: cartierul Mathare din Nairobi (Kenya). Tatii lor fie au murit de SIDA, sau au cazut victime violentei. Pentru mamele lor, viata este o lupta zilnica pentru a-i creste pe ei si pe fratii lor, un mare efort de a-i hrani, îmbraca si de a le plati taxele scolare.

În anul 2002 producatorul de filme documentare Michael Trabitzsch si jurnalista Katharina Kiecol au organizat un workshop Digicam pentru tinerii din Mathare. Filmul îsi îndreapta atentia spre acesti tineri. Timp de doi ani au observat viata lor de zi cu zi, i-au intervievat împreuna cu prietenii si familiile lor.

The film’s main protagonists live in one of the worst slums in Africa: Nairobi’s Mathare District (Kenya). Their fathers have either died from AIDS or fallen victim to violence. For their mothers, life is a daily struggle to raise them and their siblings, feed and clothe them and to pay their school fees.

In 2002 German documentary film maker Michael Trabitzsch joined forces with journalist Katharina Kiecol to set up a Digicam workshop for young people from Mathare. These youngsters are the focus of the film. For two years they documented their daily lives and interviewed their friends, their families and each other.

Opt ani mai târziu întreprinderea a fost închisa si vânduta treptat Chinei. Ulrike Franke si Michael Loeken au petrecut un an si jumatate observând procesul de dezansamblare si conflictele pe care le-a provocat între putinii muncitori germani ramasi si cei 400 de colegi chinezi.

In 1992 the world’s most technologically advanced coking plant was constructed in Dortmund at a cost of € 650 million. Eight years later the facility was closed and sold to China including lock, stock and building plans. Ulrike Franke and Michael Loeken spent one and a half years documenting the dismantling process and the conflicts it provoked between the few remaining German workers and their 400 Chinese successors.
